ELT Sandbox - where have you been?
The usual excuses - work, study, play - are also complemented by the extraordinary - new job, new responsibilities, new country, new life! After a hectic few months, I have left my position in Gabon and taken up a new one as the ICT Coordinator at he British Council in Bahrain.

That's not to say I haven't been busy. Game-based learning projects over tha last few months have included:
- a webinar for IATEFL YLTSIG (see below for the video recording)
- articles for English Teaching Professional and OnCALL
- a special article for IATEFL YLTSIG's 30th Anniversary C&Ts publication on the history of game-based learning (only available to YLTSIG members)
- ...and the start of ELT Sandbox Showcase, a YouTube project in which I play through games and discuss their potential for use in language learning
There are also some exciting projects lined up for the foreseeable future here on the ELT Sandbox blog:
- a series of interviews with educators involved in DGBL and ELT, starting this week with a special guest well-known for his work using Minecraft to teach languages online
- a panel discussion on games in language learning at the forthcoming Virtual Round Table Web Conference
- reviews of games based on their potential for DGBL contexts
- lesson plans you can use with or without games in class
In order to give the blog more focus, I am also planning monthly themes for my posts beginning with:
- April: Minecraft
- May: Survival games
- June: Interactive fiction
- July: Indie Games 1 - Going Retro
- August: Indie Games 2 - The Hard Part
- September: Mobile DGBL with App Games
Each focus is, of course, subject to change but I hope you will join me for the journey!
